The exciting alt-folk trio Wildwood Kin are headlining The British Country Music Festival in September 2021
Wildwood Kin Biography
Wildwood Kin are an English contemporary family alt folk trio, composed of sisters Beth and Emillie Key and their cousin Meghann Loney, from Exeter, Devon.
Harmonise to Everything
Before they officially formed as a band, Beth, Emillie and Meghann would harmonise to everything that was in earshot. For instance songs on the radio, TV jingles to even the doorbell. They soon found their signature style with Emillie playing guitar, Beth playing the bouzouki or keyboard, and Meghann playing the drums.
The trio join forces for harmonies in addition to taking turns on lead vocals. Crediting musical influences such as Simon & Garfunkel, Fleetwood Mac and James Taylor. Similarly with newer acts such as Mumford & Sons, Ben Howard, Fleet Foxes, Sigur Rós and The Civil Wars.
Turning Tides
They played their first gig at an open mic night at Stokeinteignhead’s Church House Inn to around 60 people. Being in the right place at the right time. Subsequently This was where Wildwood Kin caught the attention of their future management.
Their career rapidly developed and in 2017 they released their debut album, Turning Tides, via Sony Music’s imprint label Silvertone.
The band spent the majority of 2017 touring, playing a number of UK and Europoean festivals over the summer. Including an appearance with Seth Lakeman at Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park and on the BBC Music Introducing Stage at Glastonbury! GLASTONBURY!!
Following Glastonbury the producers of TBCMF booked Wildwood Kin to play the main stage at Folk On The Dock in Liverpool.
In 2018, Wildwood Kin performed their single Steady My Heart on the one-off revival special of The Old Grey Whistle Test with Bob Harris. What a fantastic opportunity!
Kintsugi inspired Beauty In Your Brokenness
Eager fans were thrilled in July 2019 when the band announced their second, self-titled album, Wildwood Kin. Alongside lead single Never Alone, written with and produced by Ed Harcourt.
Their album featured the smash hit Beauty In Your Brokenness. A song inspired by the Japanese art of Kintsugi…(putting broken pottery pieces back together with gold). This art form is built on the idea that in embracing flaws and imperfections, you can create an even stronger, more beautiful piece of art. Sometimes in the process of repairing things that have broken, we actually create something more unique, beautiful and resilient.
The rest of the album, produced by Ian Grimble, addresses profound themes like love, loss and spirituality. After a UK headline tour to support the album release, Wildwood Kin toured through Europe with the acclaimed indie rock-folk band, Boy & Bear.
The Sunday Times described “Fleetwood Mac-like harmonies, hints of Fleet Foxes’ desolate, spectral acoustica, echoes of Ben Howard’s richly textured but ramshackle sparseness. A love of Mumford-like propulsion and explosiveness.”
“I am living for the magic that is Wildwood Kin harmonies! Bring on The British Country Music Festival 2021!”
